Introduction

We’ve just updated our website to bring it up to date with what we’ve been doing during 2004/ 2005. We’ve been quite busy and there was a lot for the Webmaster to incorporate along with some general housekeeping. Hopefully it’s still interesting and useful to you all – if it’s not please let us know.

Who we are

2nd Atherton Scout Group is growing rapidly from humble beginnings. There have been Beaver and Cub packs at 2nd Atherton for over a decade and the Scout troop was started in the summer of 2002 to accommodate a group of approximately 6 Cubs who had reached the age for progressing to Scouts and needed the greater challenges that Scouting provides.

Since then the Scout troop has grown to approximately 20 Scouts, made up of four patrols. Over the last few years the troop has been very active, meeting once a week, usually on Friday evening, and have had many weekends away (primarily under canvas). The weekends camping are used to develop our scouting, bushcraft and survival skills! Bushcraft?that’s the stuff that Ray Mears guy does on TV and we taught him everything he knows,………… well almost!

The Beaver colony and Cub pack, are for younger boys aged between 6 – 8 and 8 – 10 ½ years respectively.

By the summer of 2006 we expect to have an Explorer troop to cater for the Scouts who reach the age of 14 and to welcome new additions to the group in the 14 – 18 age group.

We welcome you to our web site, please look around and if you fancy joining us see the contact details below for our leaders. On this site we aim to provide details of the activities and events that we participate in, both within the group and the district.

Don’t be afraid to come and volunteer your services, we always welcome your offer of help as without it there is always the possibility that sections may have to close.

At present we have a vacancy within the Cubs section, so whether you fancy going all the way and wearing the uniform or just helping in an informal way please get in touch with Pete the GSL.
